Practical 1 : Laser cutting !!
I was very excited for this practical as we were able to operate the laser cutting machine. Ive always wanted to try and use a laser cutting machine, and this was my golden opportunity to do so. Without futher rambling, here was how the practical went !!
Firstly, this was our PRE-improved SOP
Start-up:
1. Turn on air compressor (red switch) for the machine
2. Turn on the Fume Extractor for the machine
3. Turn on the laser cutter machine (black switch)
4. Wait for laser cutter to initilise
Operation of laser cutting machine & CorelDraw:
1. Import file into CorelDraw, ensuring it is a .dxf file
2. Set the line weight, colour as well as filling it as required for your product
(this was really annoying that it pokes out of the page, anyone who reads my blog please help <3)
3. Select print on CorelDraw and it will bring you to the Epilog M2 application
4. Set Auto-focus to thickness
5. Next, on the right side, you can select the matrial library for cutting or engraving
6. Change the frequency, speed and power to a value which suits your project best (may depend on material)
7. Position the material on the top left hand corner of the machine
8. Adjust your object in the application accordingly
9. Once everything is ready, slowly lower the hood of the printer and press print.
10. After cutting, allow product to rest for a minute before collecting
Shut down procedure:
1. Close the program on the computer
2. Turn off the laser cutter
3. Turn off fume extractor
4. Turn off air compressor
5. Clean up workspace
6. Inform TEs incharge that you are done.
After a long practical, here was what i left with !!!
(this was my competency test!)

kit we made as a group, using the 3 basic shapes
triangle,circle and rectangle)
